Gratitude

What is gratitude?

Gratitude can be described as the need to be thankful and show appreciation. In our current climate gratitude will allow you to focus on what you have got rather than what haven't got. Gratitude is being thankful for all the things that are helping you in your advancement and is an action as well as an emotion. Showing gratitude can be as simple as just saying thank you for something that you have received whether tangible or intangible. It is a positive action or emotion that is felt in receipt of a gift.

What are the benefits of practicing gratitude?

Practicing gratitude and showing appreciation for what one has is a conscious effort that will in-turn improve positivity, kindness and compassion. According to Psychology Today "overtime, feeling grateful boosts happiness and fosters both physical and psychological health".

Gratitude also serves as an affirmation by affirming that there are good things in the world and that we have good things happening in our lives. Each morning when we wake we should be grateful that we have been granted a new day, many in these uncertain times have not been given that luxury. If you have a roof over your head, family, friends, and food to eat you have things to be grateful for.
Benefits of gratitude include:

  • It can improve happiness

  • It can improve relationships

  • It encourages self-care and improves self-esteem

  • It enhances empathy and reduces aggression
